Davos: President Ilham Aliyev has announced that Azerbaijan has significantly increased its gas exports to Europe, reaching 13 billion cubic meters in a span of just over three years. This statement was made during the 'Azerbaijan Executive Breakfast,' an event at the World Economic Forum's annual meeting in Davos, where Aliyev addressed business representatives from around the globe.
According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, President Aliyev noted that last year Azerbaijan exported more than 25 billion cubic meters of natural gas, with almost 13 billion cubic meters directed to European markets. This increase aligns with a strategic partnership document signed with the European Commission in response to the energy demands following the onset of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict. The agreement was initially established to double Azerbaijan's gas supply to Europe from approximately 8 billion to 16 billion cubic meters. Aliyev emphasized that the current achievements are part of the ongoing efforts to meet and exceed these targets.
