President Ilham Aliyev Highlights Surge in Gas Exports to Europe

Davos: President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, announced a significant increase in the nation's gas exports to Europe, reaching 13 billion cubic meters in just over three years. This statement was made during the 'Azerbaijan Executive Breakfast' event, part of the World Economic Forum's annual meeting. Aliyev detailed that the total gas exports last year amounted to over 25 billion cubic meters, with nearly 13 billion directed to Europe.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the expansion in gas exports was a response to a request from the European Commission. Following the onset of the Russian-Ukrainian war, the President of the European Commission visited Baku, leading to the signing of a strategic partnership document in the energy sector. This agreement aimed to double the gas supply to Europe from the initial level of approximately 8 billion cubic meters to 16 billion cubic meters. President Aliyev highlighted the progress made, stating that they have almost reached the target of 13 billion cubic meters, with expectations for further growth.
