BAKU: President Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan welcomed Abdullah al-Alimi, Vice Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council of Yemen, for a meeting on November 14. This interaction marked a significant diplomatic engagement for both nations.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Abdullah al-Alimi extended his congratulations to Azerbaijan on successfully organizing and hosting COP29. He highlighted Azerbaijan’s achievements as a triumph for the broader Muslim community, noting the significant attendance and participation of various international leaders and representatives at the event. This, he emphasized, was a testament to the importance and success of COP29.
Al-Alimi also took the opportunity to express his admiration for Baku’s beauty and congratulated President Aliyev on the liberation of Azerbaijani territories and the restoration of the country’s sovereignty. He recalled the historical ties between the two countries, mentioning Yemeni students who studied in Azerbaijan during the Soviet era, and exp
ressed a desire to continue this educational tradition.
President Aliyev responded with gratitude for the congratulatory remarks and acknowledged the collective success of hosting COP29 in Azerbaijan. He spoke of the devastation caused by Armenia during its occupation, including the destruction of material and cultural heritage and desecration of religious sites. The President reaffirmed Azerbaijan’s achievement in liberating its territories from Armenian occupation.
The discussions also touched upon themes of Muslim solidarity and mutual cooperation within international organizations. Both leaders expressed satisfaction with the existing relations between Azerbaijan and Yemen, reaffirming their commitment to support each other and explore further collaboration opportunities in various sectors.
