Baku: President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev received Sally-Anne Vincent, the newly appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Commonwealth of Australia to Azerbaijan. The ambassador presented her credentials to the head of state, followed by a conversation between the two leaders.
According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, President Aliyev highlighted the potential for cooperation between Azerbaijan and Australia in economic, trade, and investment sectors, despite the geographical distance. He emphasized the development of political relations and extended his best wishes for the ambassador's success in her diplomatic mission.
Sally-Anne Vincent expressed her honor in being appointed as ambassador to Azerbaijan and recalled her recent visit to the country. She committed to strengthening bilateral ties and expressed gratitude for the letter sent by President Aliyev to Samantha Mostyn, Governor-General of Australia, on Australia's national holiday.
The ambassador mentioned the cooperation between Azerbaijan and Australia within COP29, noting the large Australian delegation at the event. She also discussed the upcoming COP31, co-hosted by Australia and Trkiye, and appreciated Azerbaijan's efforts in this area. Vincent highlighted that Azerbaijan will host the World Urban Forum this year, with Australia sending a significant delegation.
The meeting also covered potential cooperation in political, economic, and green energy fields, with both parties acknowledging the importance of reciprocal visits in enhancing relations. Next year marks the 35th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Azerbaijan and Australia.
