President Ilham Aliyev Strengthens Ties with Trkiye’s Recep Tayyip Erdogan

Ankara: President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev made a phone call to President of the Republic of Trkiye Recep Tayyip Erdogan on August 9, as reported by APA. During the conversation, both leaders acknowledged the progress in Azerbaijan-Trkiye relations, emphasizing their brotherhood and strategic alliance across various fields.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the discussion underscored the importance of documents signed during President Ilham Aliyev’s visit to the U.S. These included the Joint Declaration by the President of Azerbaijan and the Prime Minister of Armenia, witnessed by the U.S. President, and the initialing of the Agreement on Peace and the Establishment of Interstate Relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia. The leaders also discussed the joint appeal to dissolve the OSCE Minsk Group, highlighting these steps as vital for ensuring long-term peace and stability in the region.

President Ilham Aliyev commended the role of U.S. President Donald Trump in these achievements and expressed optimism that establishing unimpeded transport links between Azerbaijan’s mainland and its Nakhchivan region would boost regional prosperity. He also appreciated the support from President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Trkiye in the normalization process between Armenia and Azerbaijan.

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan congratulated President Ilham Aliyev for his leadership in advancing the regional peace agenda and reaffirmed Trkiye’s steadfast support for peace and stability in the region. The leaders highlighted the start of Azerbaijan’s natural gas exports to Syria via Trkiye, noting its positive impact on Syria’s energy security and social welfare.

During the call, the Presidents also exchanged views on the future prospects of the Azerbaijan-Trkiye brotherly relations.
