Tashkent: President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva visited the Independence Monument in Tashkent on August 23. President Aliyev laid a wreath at the monument during their visit.

According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, the monument is located in the center of the 'Yangi Uzbekistan' ('New Uzbekistan') complex and was established to commemorate the 30th anniversary of Uzbekistan's independence. The monument is topped by a figure of the Huma bird with its wings spread wide, symbolizing peace, freedom, kindness, and happiness. The monument was designed at the initiative of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
