President Ilham Aliyev Visits Restored Villages in Khojavend District

Khojavend: President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev visited Guzeykhirman village in the Khojavend district on July 11, APA reports. The head of state was briefed on the restoration of individual houses and infrastructure in the villages of Guzeykhirman and Guneykhirman. President Ilham Aliyev then met with residents who had returned to both villages.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Emin Huseynov, the Special Representative of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan in the Aghdam, Fuzuli, and Khojavend districts, informed the head of state about the completed social infrastructure projects in the Guzeykhirman and Guneykhirman villages. Guneykhirman village, part of the administrative-territorial unit in the Khojavend district, was occupied by Armenian armed forces in 1992 and was liberated in 2023 as a result of anti-terror measures. Before the occupation, residents engaged in livestock breeding, viticulture, and farming, and the village had schools, a kindergarten, a hospital, and other facilities.

The village of Guneykhirman has 549 individual houses, of which 170 are beyond repair, while 379 can be restored. Fifty houses are ready for occupancy, and restoration works continue in 147 houses. Preparatory works are underway for the restoration of another 182 houses. Recently, 18 families comprising 72 people returned to the village. Social infrastructure projects in the village include a new gas pipeline, repaired gas lines, installed pump equipment in sub-artesian wells, and ongoing construction of a pumping station. The internal water supply network has been reconstructed, and a fiber-optic cable has been laid.

In Guzeykhirman village, also part of the same administrative-territorial unit, the village was occupied in 1992 and liberated in 2023 due to the anti-terror measures by the Azerbaijani Armed Forces. Before the occupation, residents engaged in viticulture, grain cultivation, and livestock breeding. The village had a secondary school, kindergartens, a club, and a library.

Guzeykhirman village has 447 individual houses. Of these, 65 are beyond repair, while 382 can be restored. Restoration works are underway in 244 houses, with 100 already ready for occupancy. Work on the remaining 144 houses will be completed in the coming months. Preparatory works are also underway for the restoration of the remaining 138 houses. Recently, 21 families comprising 87 people returned to the village. Social infrastructure projects implemented in the village include new gas lines, restored existing gas lines, equipped sub-artesian wells, and reconstructed water supply networks and pumping stations. The electricity distribution network has been restored, and a fiber-optic cable line has been laid. The 460-seat Guzeykhirman village secondary school and the 40-seat nursery-kindergarten have been renovated, with public catering facilities also put into operation.

President Ilham Aliyev visited the home of village resident Isa Gozalov and spoke with him. He also met with residents who returned to both villages. President Aliyev emphasized the significance of former internally displaced persons returning to their ancestral lands, marking it as a celebration for all Azerbaijani people. He highlighted the ongoing efforts to create necessary conditions for returnees, such as electricity, water, gas, and roads, following the Second Garabagh War. He reiterated Azerbaijan's commitment to ensuring the dignity and security of its people, emphasizing the unity and strength demonstrated during the conflict.
