Baku: President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev received Sok Chea, the newly appointed Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Kingdom of Cambodia to Azerbaijan, on July 17. The ambassador presented his credentials to the head of state, marking a new chapter in diplomatic relations between the two countries.
According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, President Ilham Aliyev emphasized the significance of the bilateral relationship between Azerbaijan and Cambodia, highlighting mutual support and active communication at the governmental and party levels. He noted the importance of expanding cooperation beyond politics to include economic and investment opportunities, underscoring the friendly ties between the two nations.
Ambassador Sok Chea, expressing gratitude for the warm reception, conveyed greetings from His Majesty King Norodom Sihamoni and Prime Minister Hun Manet of Cambodia. President Aliyev reciprocated the sentiments, requesting the ambassador to relay his regards to the Cambodian leaders.
The ambassador acknowledged the value Cambodia places on its relationship with Azerbaijan. Despite the geographical distance, he noted that both countries maintain similar stances on critical global issues such as sustainable development, international peace, and stability.
Ambassador Sok Chea expressed a commitment to enhancing bilateral cooperation, particularly in trade, tourism, culture, and people-to-people exchanges. He highlighted the potential for strengthening ties and pledged efforts to expand collaboration in these areas.
During the meeting, both parties commended the effective cooperation between Azerbaijan and Cambodia within international organizations. They expressed optimism that the anticipated visit of Cambodia's Prime Minister to Azerbaijan would further broaden bilateral relations.
