Baku: President Ilham Aliyev highlighted the challenges Azerbaijan encountered during the implementation of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway project during a meeting dedicated to transportation issues, APA reports.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the head of state stated that Azerbaijan faced significant resistance when attempting to implement the project. He specifically mentioned opposition from the United States, attributing it to their pro-Armenian policies. President Aliyev noted that there was a belief the project would exclude Armenia, which led to substantial pressure on the Georgian leadership from the United States to prevent Georgia’s agreement to the project. Despite these challenges, President Aliyev explained that after several years of negotiations with Georgia, Azerbaijan finally succeeded in reaching an agreement.
