President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev has congratulated newly elected President of the Islamic Republic of Iran Seyed Ibrahim Raisi.

The congratulatory message stressed that Azerbaijan attaches special importance to relations with Iran, which is historically connected with religious and cultural roots: “The current state of our relations, which has reached the level of strategic cooperation, is gratifying. Numerous mutual visits between our countries, signed documents, joint projects, as well as the successful activities of the State Commission play an important role in the development of our cooperation of mutual interest.

With the liberation of the ancient, historical lands of Azerbaijan from occupation, the Azerbaijani-Iranian state border has been fully restored. This new situation promises great opportunities for further strengthening bilateral relations between our countries and the development of regional cooperation.

The congratulatory letter expresses confidence that the Azerbaijani-Iranian friendly and cooperative relations based on mutual respect and good neighborliness will continue to strengthen and expand in the interests of our peoples and countries through joint efforts.
