President of Azerbaijan: we will be able to increase gas production by 10 billion cubic meters (bcm) in 5-6 years

Azerbaijan plans to increase gas production by 10 bcm within 5-6 years, President Ilham Aliyev said. “The doubling of the capacity of the TANAP gas pipeline relates to Azerbaijani gas. In this regard, in the next 5-6 years, if everything goes according to plan, we will be able to produce an additional at least 10 billion cubic meters of gas,” Aliyev said on January 10 in an interview with local TV channels.

The head of state also said that, in general, an increase in the volume of Azerbaijani gas exports is expected due to the commissioning of new fields.

“Our export of natural gas will be greater because we will export gas from new fields – Absheron, Umid-Babek, Azeri-Chirag-Guneshli, Shah Deniz – and at the same time saved gas due to the introduction of new capacity from alternative sources,” Aliyev said.

It should be noted that at present more than 93% of electricity produced in Azerbaijan falls on natural gas.

Earlier it was reported that the Azerbaijani government forecasts commercial gas production in the country in 2023 at the level of 35.9 billion cubic meters. At the same time, more than 34.5 billion cubic meters of marketable gas were produced last year. In 2021, the volume of commercial gas in Azerbaijan amounted to 32.6 bcm
