Baku: A delegation led by President of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Latvia, Irena Kucina, visited the Alley of Honors to pay tribute to National Leader Heydar Aliyev during its visit to Azerbaijan on July 10, the Press Service of the Constitutional Court told APA.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the guests also paid respects at the grave of prominent ophthalmologist and academician Zarifa Aliyeva. They honored the memory of those who sacrificed their lives for Azerbaijan's independence and territorial integrity at the Alley of Martyrs and laid flowers at the Eternal Flame monument.
Subsequently, a meeting took place at the Constitutional Court with the delegation from Latvia. The Chairman of the Constitutional Court, Farhad Abdullayev, expressed satisfaction over the dynamic development of friendly relations and cooperation grounded in mutual respect and trust between Azerbaijan and Latvia.
It was highlighted that the effective partnership between the two countries extends beyond political and economic spheres, successfully continuing in the judicial and legal domain. The collaboration between the Constitutional Courts and the exchange of experiences in ensuring constitutional supremacy were emphasized as particularly important.
President Irena Kucina shared detailed insights into the activities of Latvia's Constitutional Court, including the institution's experience in constitutional review and decisions aimed at safeguarding constitutional rights. She emphasized the benefits of broad discussions and exchanges of views among constitutional justice bodies.
Further discussions involved judges and senior staff members from the Constitutional Courts of both countries. They exchanged views on judicial practices, constitutional review issues, modern mechanisms for rights protection, digital transformation in judicial activities, artificial intelligence applications, and ensuring uniformity in judicial practice.
Participants stressed that ongoing bilateral cooperation would significantly enhance the effectiveness of constitutional review by adopting progressive legal approaches.
