Baku: The reconstruction and restoration works being carried out in the liberated territories are a huge mission facing our government, Assistant to the President of Azerbaijan and Head of the Foreign Policy Affairs Department of the Presidential Administration, Hikmat Hajiyev, said during the event titled 'WUF13 NGO Forum: Global Partnerships and Decision-Making,' APA reports.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Hajiyev highlighted the significant challenges posed by the widespread contamination of mines in the region. He expressed the gravity of the situation, noting that cities which were destroyed are now being revived and new cities are being constructed. He remarked on the historical context of cities being destroyed due to occupations, wars, and conflicts, and emphasized that today, similar destruction is witnessed firsthand. He cited Azerbaijan as an example, where nine cities were lost to deliberate destruction, with cities like Aghdam being completely dismantled.
Hajiyev conveyed a message of optimism, stating that while the past was marked by such destruction, the future is focused on reconstruction. He emphasized the country's commitment to building new cities and providing a dignified and safe return for former internally displaced persons. In light of these efforts, Hajiyev declared Azerbaijan to be an ideal venue for hosting the World Urban Forum, welcoming the opportunity to share experiences and learn from global partners and civil society institutions.
