Baku: The issue of recognizing the 1915 events as the "Armenian genocide" in Israel raised significant concerns for Azerbaijan, due to the prioritization of interests shared with brotherly Trkiye, which has consistently been a "red line" for Azerbaijan. Hikmat Hajiyev, Assistant to the President of Azerbaijan and Head of the Foreign Policy Affairs Department of the Presidential Administration, shared these insights with Haber Global.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Azerbaijan initiated intensive diplomatic efforts under the directive of the President as soon as the issue surfaced. Azerbaijan communicated to Israel that adopting such a decision would be unfair and not reflective of historical reality, deeming its potential adoption inappropriate. Hajiyev emphasized that Israel took Azerbaijan's messages seriously, which he believes prevented further progress on the issue. He asserted that any recognition would not reflect historical reality and would be unjust.

Hajiyev further noted the close relationship between Trkiye and Azerbaijan, stating that where one is absent, the other is present. He affirmed Azerbaijan's commitment to decisively respond to any actions against the interests of the two countries.

The Israeli government has since halted the initiative to recognize the 1915 events involving Armenians as the "Armenian genocide." Following Azerbaijan's pressure, the issue was removed from the Israeli Knesset's agenda.
