Baku: The discussions focused on the role of the private sector in addressing climate change, businesses' transition to green transformation, the promotion of sustainable investment, and enhancing companies' environmental responsibility.

According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, in his address, Representative of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan on Climate Issues and President of COP29 Mukhtar Babayev stressed the importance of active private-sector involvement in implementing the climate agenda. He said that combating climate change should not be solely the responsibility of governments, adding that private-sector representatives must also play an active role in the process.

Climate Change High-Level Champion for COP29 and MP Nigar Arpadarai highlighted the importance of private-sector participation in climate action, urging companies to integrate climate commitments into their business strategies and reduce emissions.

Newly appointed UN Resident Coordinator in Azerbaijan Dmytro Shlapachenko stressed the need for international cooperation and stronger partnerships among governments, the private sector, and civil society to address global climate challenges.

The roundtable also featured discussions on green financing mechanisms, expanding the use of renewable energy sources, improving energy efficiency, and strengthening the contribution of private companies to achieving climate goals.

The event concluded with an exchange of views among participants.
