Putin to Host Outreach/BRICS Plus Meeting, Hold News Conference


Kazan: An Outreach/BRICS Plus meeting will convene on the final day of the BRICS Summit in Kazan, with Russian President Vladimir Putin set to address a news conference summarizing the three-day summit’s outcomes. The event will gather representatives from nearly 40 countries, including leaders from various regions and heads of international organizations, APA reports citing TASS.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the Outreach/BRICS Plus format extends beyond the ten BRICS members, incorporating delegates from the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), Asia, Africa, the Middle East, and Latin America. The agenda will focus on sustainable development, conflict resolution, counter-terrorism, poverty reduction, climate change, supply chain stability, and technology exchange. President Putin emphasized that these topics directly impact people’s lives and necessitate collaborative efforts. Kremlin adviser Yury Ushakov noted that special attention would be directed toward the Middle East situation.

Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova stated that journalists from various countries, including those considered unfriendly, have received accreditation to attend. After the conference, Putin will engage in bilateral meetings with foreign leaders, aiming to converse with all attending dignitaries. Additional events include an informal dinner, two working sessions, and a gala reception hosted by the Russian president.

Previously, the BRICS countries adopted the Kazan declaration during the summit. The 16th BRICS Summit marks a key event under Russia’s chairmanship, which commenced on January 1, 2024, with the inclusion of Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates as full-fledged members. The BRICS group, established in 2006 by Brazil, Russia, India, and China, welcomed South Africa in 2011.
