BAKU: The railway sector is of paramount importance to Azerbaijan’s development, playing a pivotal role in attracting investments and boosting trade volumes, according to Orkhan Ahmadzade, Acting Head of the Research and Development Center at Azerbaijan Railways CJSC. Ahmadzade made these remarks during an information event in Baku focused on “Innovations in Railroad Technology in Azerbaijan: Partnerships and Opportunities for German Companies,” as reported by Trend News Agency.

According to Trend News Agency, Ahmadzade highlighted Azerbaijan’s strategic geographical position as a key factor in its emergence as a central hub for trade and logistics. Situated at the crossroads of Europe and Asia, Azerbaijan is integral to routes like the Middle Corridor, which links China with Europe. The government is actively pursuing a stable, transparent, and business-friendly environment to attract investments, particularly in infrastructure and logistics. These efforts are aimed at not only positioning Azerbaijan as a s
ignificant player in global trade but also at diversifying the nation’s economy.

Ahmadzade further stressed the railway sector’s essential role in the country’s growth, particularly in the domains of investment attraction and trade expansion. He noted that substantial investments have been made to modernize and expand the railway network. Key initiatives include the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway and enhancements to the north-south and east-west corridors, which are designed to boost cargo transport across borders and increase regional connectivity. These projects are indicative of Azerbaijan’s commitment to becoming a logistics hub for Eurasia.

He remarked that these developments form part of broader efforts to reinforce Azerbaijan’s position as a crucial link in global supply chains.
