Accra:During a meeting of the New Azerbaijan Party's Executive Board, Ramiz Mehdiyev was expelled from the party. The decision follows accusations against Mehdiyev of serious crimes, including treason and attempting to seize power illegally.
According to Azeri-Press news agency, Tahir Budagov, Deputy Chairman of the New Azerbaijan Party (YAP) and Head of the Central Apparatus, announced the expulsion during the first meeting of the party's Board after the 8th Congress. The proposal to expel Mehdiyev and strip him of state awards was based on numerous appeals from local organizations and the significant public resonance generated by these allegations.
Deputy Chairman Ali Ahmadov, along with other Board members, supported the decision, citing Mehdiyev's lack of moral and political standing to remain in the party. Consequently, a formal request will be submitted to the relevant authorities to have him deprived of all state awards. Additionally, Mehdiyev was not included in the newly formed Veterans Council of the party.
