Real Madrid and Barcelona Set to Clash in Spanish Super Cup Final

Riyadh: Real Madrid defeated Atlético Madrid 2-1 in the semifinal match of the Spanish Super Cup. The tournament is being held in Saudi Arabia, APA reports. According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the winners' goals were scored by Federico Valverde in the 2nd minute and Rodrigo in the 55th minute. For Atlético Madrid, the only goal was scored by Alexander Sørloth in the 59th minute. In the final, Real Madrid will face Barcelona, which previously defeated Athletic Bilbao 5-0. The decisive match is scheduled to take place on January 11. Since the 2019/20 season, the Spanish Super Cup has adopted a mini-tournament format. Typically, it involves the national champion and runner-up, as well as the winner and runner-up of the national cup. However, last season, Barcelona claimed victory in both tournaments, and Real Madrid finished second in both competitions. As a result, the teams competing in the current Spanish Super Cup are the third- and fourth-place finishers in the last national championship.
