As a result of the search and investigation conducted by relevant state bodies represented in the State Commission on Prisoners of War, Missing, and Captured Citizens of the Republic of Azerbaijan, on July 3, 2024, remains believed to belong to two Azerbaijani Army soldiers were discovered and recovered in the Yzbulaq summer pasture area in the Istisu settlement of Kalbajar district, says joint statement by the State Security Service of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Republic of Azerbaijan, and the State Commission on Prisoners of War, Missing, and Captured Citizens of the Republic of Azerbaijan, APA reports.

Complex investigative measures, forensic medical, and criminological studies have determined that the soldiers went missing on March 3, 2022, due to sudden changes in weather and a snowstorm in a high mountainous and difficult terrain area in the Lachin district. They lost their way and died from hypothermia after being exposed to cold temperatures for an extended period.
The discovery of the soldiers’ remains was announced to the families of the missing soldiers during a meeting held on August 5, 2024, at the State Commission.
Currently, necessary arrangements are being made in collaboration with relevant state bodies for the burial of soldiers Farid Mammadyov and Firdovsi Abdullayev. Further infor
mation regarding the time and place of the funeral ceremonies will be provided to the public.
