Beijing: Speaker of the Milli Majlis (Azerbaijani Parliament) Sahiba Gafarova has delivered a speech at the Annual Conference of the Boao Forum for Asia as part of her working visit to the People's Republic of China, the Press and Public Relations Department of the Milli Majlis told APA.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Sahiba Gafarova began her address by emphasizing the significance of the Boao Forum. She highlighted the importance of Azerbaijan-China relations and noted how shared perspectives between the two countries foster closer ties.
Gafarova informed the forum participants that Azerbaijan prioritizes the principles of sovereignty, territorial integrity, and non-interference in internal affairs. This stance comes in light of Azerbaijan's recent history, where it endured nearly three decades of occupation before restoring its territorial integrity and sovereignty in line with international law.
Furthermore, she announced that Azerbaijan is set to host the World Urban Forum in the coming months and the Summit of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA) in Baku in the autumn of 2026. These events underscore Azerbaijan's commitment to enhancing international cooperation.
In her speech, the Speaker also addressed the ongoing peace process between Azerbaijan and Armenia. She stressed that restoring transport and communication links between Azerbaijan's western regions and the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic would significantly boost the efficiency of the Middle Corridor. Gafarova emphasized that the Middle Corridor is establishing itself as a reliable and efficient route connecting Europe and Asia.
