“Our energy cooperation responds to a strategic impetus. It will enhance our energy resilience and ensure diversification of supply and transport routes. It is market-driven given increase to energy demand in Europe and the green energy potential in the Caspian Sea region, particularly in Azerbaijan. It takes forward the tangible flagship initiative within the Eastern Partnership,” said President of Romania Klaus Iohannis as he addressed a plenary meeting on the signing ceremony of the “Agreement on a strategic partnership in the field of green energy development and transmission between the Governments of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Georgia, Romania and Hungary” in Bucharest.

“Today’s agreement sets up a framework for a long-term cooperation between our countries in a number of very important areas. This is an ambitious agreement. It shows that we can provide together valuable contributions to strengthening Europe’s energy security, and it will contribute to sustainable growth for the countries in the region. We also want to move forward more boldly towards clean energy. The challenges posed by climate change affect all of us. Security, climate and economic challenges require more interconnections and cooperation regionally and globally,” the Romanian President noted.

Stressing the role of Azerbaijan in this process Romanian President Klaus Iohannis said: “These endeavors will enhance connectivity with Azerbaijan and further onto Central Asia. A lot of work ahead of us to tap the potential and increase our resilience. I am glad that the agreement we signed today builds for this purpose.”
