Baku: The Russia-Azerbaijan Intergovernmental Commission on Economic cooperation convened in Baku during the visit of a Russian governmental delegation to Azerbaijan. The meeting was co-chaired by Shahin Mustafayev, Deputy Prime Minister of Azerbaijan, and Alexei Overchuk, Deputy Prime Minister of Russia.

According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, the discussions centered on enhancing bilateral cooperation in various sectors, including trade, economic, industrial, energy, transport, logistics, and agriculture. Both parties acknowledged the consistent growth in mutual trade turnover and identified opportunities for joint investment projects aimed at medium- and long-term gains.

The meeting also addressed strategies to increase cargo transportation volumes between the two nations, utilizing road, rail, and sea transport methods. Discussions highlighted the effectiveness of current checkpoints on the Russian-Azerbaijani border and considered potential modernization plans.

Furthermore, the Deputy Prime Ministers examined the progress of the North-South International Transport Corridor. They discussed ways to boost its transport capacity and improve the associated logistics infrastructure.

The officials concluded the meeting with an agreement to reconvene the Intergovernmental Commission in April.
