Dostuk-Avtodorozhny: The State Committee for National Security of Kyrgyzstan’s Border Service reported a thwarted attempt of illegal currency export at the Dostuk-Avtodorozhny checkpoint.
According to 24.kg News Agency, a 42-year-old Russian citizen was detained for not declaring a significant sum of money while crossing the border.
The incident occurred at approximately 8:30 a.m. when the Russian national was found carrying $10,200 during a border control inspection, a sum he failed to declare. Following the discovery, the individual and the seized money were handed over to competent authorities for further proceedings. The Border Service of the State Committee for National Security highlighted that there is a temporary ban on the export of cash foreign currency from Kyrgyzstan.
Non-residents and foreign citizens are limited to exporting $5,000 in cash, while residents and citizens of Kyrgyzstan are capped at $10,000. Any amount exceeding these limits is subject to a 10% fee on the excess sum.
