Yekaterinburg: The Russian Investigative Committee has brought charges against Azerbaijanis detained in Yekaterinburg, as reported by the official representative of the Russian Investigative Committee, Svetlana Petrenko, APA’s Russian bureau reports.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, charges have been brought against members of a criminal group involved in a number of particularly serious crimes in Yekaterinburg. The Main Investigation Department of the Investigative Committee of Russia is actively investigating the criminal case concerning the murder and attempted murder of individuals from the Republic of Azerbaijan in the Sverdlovsk region during the years 2001, 2010, and 2011.

The accused in the criminal case have been identified as Mazahir Safarov, Akif Safarov, Ayaz Safarov, Ahliman Ganjiyev, Shahid Lalayev, and Bakir Safarov. Depending on their role and the degree of their participation in the commission of these crimes, five of them are charged under Part 2 of Article 105 and Part 3 of Article 30 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. The court, acting on a motion from the investigation, has ordered the arrest of all six accused, who are citizens of the Russian Federation.

The investigation has revealed that the accused members of the criminal group were involved in the murder of Yunis Pashayev, who succumbed to stab wounds in 2001; an attempted contract killing of F. Shirinov in 2010; and the murder of Azerbaijani citizen I. Hajiyev in 2011. The investigation suggests that the motives behind these crimes were related to disputes over business influence and personal revenge.

During the on-site examination of the statements, one of the accused provided a detailed account of the crime’s circumstances and implicated his accomplices. The investigation into the criminal case is ongoing, as noted by the official representative of the Investigative Committee of Russia.
