Ankara: Discussions surrounding the issue of reparations often lead to disagreements and polarization, Charles Kayonga, Rwanda's Ambassador to Trkiye, said at the international conference titled 'Injustices of Belgian Colonialism and 101 Years of Struggle for Reparations,' organized by the Baku Initiative Group, APA reports. He emphasized that the conversation should not only focus on assigning responsibility for past events but also on addressing the consequences that arose from that period.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Ambassador Kayonga pointed out that the ramifications of colonialism did not conclude with the end of territorial occupation. He explained that colonial policies led to the emergence of institutions and structures that have since influenced political power dynamics, social identity formation, economic relations, and the inclusion or exclusion of various societal groups from processes.

Kayonga argued that while colonialism did not directly dictate political outcomes, it established frameworks within which these outcomes were shaped. To achieve true decolonization and mitigate these lasting effects, it is essential to expose these structures and assess their impacts.
