Saleh Rustamov lost the ability to move independently – attorney

On December 11, lawyer Bahruz Bayramov visited the activist Saleh Rustamov at the Medical Institution of the Azerbaijan Penitentiary Service, who has been on a hunger strike for 36 days.

“Today Salekh Rustamov could no longer walk on his own. To the meeting, he was brought to the visiting room, holding his hand. His memory problems worsened. He spoke incoherently, forgot words, ”the lawyer told Turan.

According to him, Rustamov cannot sleep because of severe pain. He lost 17 kg.

At the same time, the lawyer stressed that Rustamov conveyed gratitude to all those who support him, but urged not to hold street actions.

“Salekh Rustamov does not want people to be detained, beaten because of him. He asked to continue the struggle without holding actions, ”the lawyer said.

The lawyer stated with regret that to date neither the Plenum of the Supreme Court, nor the Nizami District Court have responded to the appeals of the defenders to consider the issue of Rustamov’s early release.

* Supporter of the Popular Front Party, veteran of the first Karabakh war, Saleh Rustamov, was arrested in May 2018 and sentenced to 7 years 3 months in prison on a falsified case of “illegal financing of the Popular Front Party”.

Human rights activists recognized him as a political prisoner. On November 6, he began an indefinite hunger strike demanding his release.

Saleh Rustamov is a veteran of the Karabakh war. In 1992, being the head of the Executive Power of the Gadabay region, he was one of the leaders of the Bashkand operation to ensure the security of border villages in the region.
