The law enforcement bodies have arrested another high-ranking customs official. According to the pro-government media, this is the head of the Main Operative and Investigative Department, General Masum Rasulov.

However, official structures do not publish reports on this nor give any comments. In particular, it failed to find out the reliability of this information from the Prosecutor’s Office, the State Security Service or the Customs Committee itself.

It is difficult to explain such secrecy given the official’s position. At the same time, law-enforcement agencies are not stingy with details when they arrest employees of municipalities, district hospitals or housing maintenance workers. In so doing, all these are presented as vivid evidence of the successful fight against corruption.

As for the Customs Committee, recently this agency has clearly fallen into disfavor. Thus, the day before, Ali Jahangirli, deputy head of the Southern Territorial Administration, committed suicide.

In June-July the director of “Azerterminalcomplex” union, major-general of customs service Ehtiram Khalilov, the deputy head of the main customs administration of energy resources and sea transport Rashad Babayev and the deputy head of the road taxes department Shukur Safarov were arrested.

Note that the law-enforcement agencies never explain what crimes these individuals have committed.
