New york: “A peace treaty between Armenia and Azerbaijan is of critical importance for the national security of the United States,” Senator Steve Daines, a member of the US Senate Foreign Relations Committee, stated in an interview with 77 WABC radio, APA reports. The senator highlighted the significance of the ‘Zangezur Corridor’ in shaping geopolitical alignments.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the senator underscored the potential shift of the five Central Asian countries towards a more European and Western orientation, moving away from Russian and Chinese influences. Senator Daines described the current situation as a pivotal moment in international relations.

During his visit to Azerbaijan in May, Senator Daines met with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and later visited Armenia to meet with Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan. He indicated that both nations are close to finalizing the peace treaty, which holds significant implications for regional stability.

The senator also noted concerns from Russia and Iran regarding the process, drawing parallels to the ‘Abraham Accords.’ He mentioned that the peace treaty could yield substantial benefits for the United States and Western countries, while acknowledging the dissatisfaction of Russia and Iran with the developments.
