Serbia initiates virtual conference to enhance transport cooperation with Azerbaijan

Serbia initiated the organization of a virtual conference involving industry experts from Azerbaijan and Serbia, Serbian Minister of Culture and Co-Chairman of the Intergovernmental Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation between the two countries Nikola Selakovic said, Trend reports.

He made the remark at the press conference following the signing of the final protocol of the eighth meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation between Azerbaijan and Serbia held in Baku today.

According to him, Serbia shows great interest in cooperation with Azerbaijan in the field of transport and logistics.

“First of all, I would like to emphasize the importance of opening a direct flight between Belgrade and Baku. Most of Serbia’s neighbors already have direct air connections with Azerbaijan, but there is none between Serbia and Azerbaijan.

Meanwhile, Azerbaijani citizens can visit Serbia without visas. So, direct air communication is crucial for the development of tourism.

Additi
onally, Serbia is a large market for trade and economic opportunities for Azerbaijani businesses, as a strategic partnership is developing between our countries. Therefore, the opening of air connections is vital and important.

The second perspective in the transport sector is the continuation of cooperation with Azerbaijani construction companies for the restoration and creation of road infrastructure in Serbia. This cooperation has been ongoing for 12 years.

Currently, Serbia is striving to build roads in the western and central parts of the country, and the experience of Azerbaijani companies, which perform the corresponding work qualitatively and promptly, is very important,” noted the minister.

He announced that in the coming days, a virtual conference will be organized between the transport ministers of both countries and industry companies to discuss the activation of ties in the transport sector, especially air communication.

“I hope that the issue of organizing air communication will be resolved
in the coming months,” Selakovic emphasized.

He also expressed interest in Azerbaijan’s implementation of international transport corridors, as their development is aimed at increasing cargo turnover with European countries.
