Series of Earthquakes Shake Caspian Sea Region

Baku: A series of earthquakes has been recorded in the Caspian Sea, causing tremors felt across several regions.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the Earthquake Research Bureau of the Republican Seismological Service Center under the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences reported multiple seismic events.

The first detected earthquake occurred at 13:05 local time, registering a magnitude of 5.3 at a depth of 70 km. The tremor was felt with an intensity of 3 to 4 in areas such as Lankaran, Yardimli, Lerik, Astara, Jalilabad, and Neftchala. This initial earthquake was one of the stronger tremors, causing notable vibrations in the southern region of Azerbaijan.

Following this, another earthquake was recorded at 13:10 local time. This second seismic event had a magnitude of 3.2 and was at a depth of 20 km. The Republican Seismological Service Center confirmed this subsequent tremor was slightly less intense but still a part of the series affecting the Caspian Sea area.

The third earthquake struck at 13:21 local time, with a magnitude of 3 and a depth of 21 km. The Earthquake Research Bureau noted this continued activity as part of ongoing seismic movements in the region.

Earlier reports indicated an earthquake with an estimated magnitude of 4-5 occurred at a depth of 70 km. This was also felt in various regions, including Lankaran and Astara, as confirmed by Gurban Yetirmishli, Director General of the Republican Seismological Service Center.

Residents in the affected areas experienced noticeable shaking, with varying intensities reported across the southern regions of Azerbaijan. The series of earthquakes highlights the seismic activity prevalent in the Caspian Sea area.
