Ankara: The borders between Trkiye and Armenia will also be opened if peace and long-term reconciliation are achieved between Azerbaijan and Armenia, said Shamil Ayrim, the head of the Azerbaijan-Trkiye interparliamentary friendship group at the Grand National Assembly of Trkiye, during a joint meeting of working groups of the parliaments of Azerbaijan, Trkiye, and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus held at the Milli Majlis, APA reports.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Shamil Ayrim highlighted the importance of strengthening education, energy, security issues, and cultural events among Turkic states. He emphasized the significance of Trkiye-Azerbaijan interparliamentary cooperation and its role in regional peace.
The head of the Trkiye-Azerbaijan interparliamentary friendship group stated that the cooperation between Azerbaijan and Trkiye holds strategic importance both regionally and within the Turkic world. He noted that amid recent tensions between Iran and the United States, the coordinated actions of Azerbaijan and Trkiye play an important role in maintaining stability in the region.
Shamil Ayrim emphasized Azerbaijan's role in the fields of energy, security, and trade, as well as Trkiye's strategic position as an energy transit hub. He pointed out that these elements are important not only economically but also from the perspective of regional security.
He added that tensions in the Eastern Mediterranean and the Cyprus issue further increase this strategic importance, and that joint cooperation is essential to ensure lasting peace in the region. Shamil Ayrim also noted the support of the presidents of Azerbaijan and Trkiye, stating that interparliamentary friendship institutions are important for strengthening this cooperation and contributing to the development of joint activity in the Turkic world.
