Ship Captain and Crew Arrested in Azerbaijan for Cigarette Smuggling

Baku: Three more individuals accused of cigarette smuggling have been arrested in Azerbaijan, APA reports. On the criminal case investigated by the Chief Anti-Corruption Office under the Prosecutor General, individuals wanted in connection with cigarette smuggling – ship captain Elshan Ahmadov, sailor Amid Sayilov, and a mechanic named Elchin – were detained at the airport. A preventive measure of arrest has been imposed on them.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, it is reported that these individuals are employees of RR Caspi LLC. The indictment states that they brought the smuggled goods by boat to a pier in the Alat settlement and loaded them onto three trucks. The boat is also said to belong to “RR Caspi” LLC. They have been charged under Articles 206.3.2, 213-1.2.1, and 213-1.2.3 of the Criminal Code.

The ongoing investigation also mentions Samaya Co LTD LLC and Samaya Logistic LLC as part of the case. Previously, the Chief Anti-Corruption Office under the Prosecutor General had detained the head of a unit of the Coast Guard of the State Border Service and the unit’s inspector. Preventive measures were imposed on Captain Vusal Sadigov and the inspector.
