Singapore: Silk Way West Airlines, a prominent cargo airline in the Caspian and Central Asian region, has established a new multi-year agreement with dnata, a global air and travel services provider, for cargo and freighter handling services at Singapore Changi Airport. This agreement further strengthens the longstanding global partnership between the two companies.
According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, under the agreement, dnata will support Silk Way West Airlines' twice-weekly freighter services at one of Asia's key aviation and logistics hubs. The partnership is projected to handle over 100 freighter flights annually and more than 15,000 tonnes of cargo each year, encompassing general freight, temperature-sensitive goods, and specialized shipments such as oil and gas, aviation and aerospace equipment.
Singapore is a crucial node in Silk Way West Airlines' global cargo network, linking the Asia-Pacific region with significant markets across the Middle East, Europe, and beyond. The agreement underscores the airline's focus on maintaining high operational standards, enhancing service reliability, and ensuring efficient cargo flows across its network.
Onno Pietersma, Chief Operating Officer of Silk Way West Airlines, emphasized the importance of Singapore as a global gateway and highlighted the necessity of reliable ground and cargo handling for efficient freighter operations. He noted that the ongoing cooperation with dnata supports the airline's commitment to operational excellence and service reliability.
Tom Alwyn-Jones, Managing Director of dnata's Airport Operations unit in Singapore, expressed that the agreement highlights the strength of their operations in Singapore and their capacity to support freighter carriers in a dynamic hub. He pointed out the importance of delivering consistent and reliable handling on the ground to maintain smooth operations amid increasing demands.
The agreement adds to the longstanding relationship between Silk Way Group and dnata, which currently extends across key international markets such as Amsterdam, Dubai, and several destinations in Iraq. dnata already supports the airline's operations, handling over 1,000 flights and substantial cargo volumes each year. The partnership has recently expanded through a joint venture focused on developing an aviation services hub at Azerbaijan's new cargo airport in the Alat Free Economic Zone.
In Singapore, dnata offers comprehensive aviation services at Changi Airport, supporting over 30 airlines and managing approximately 250,000 tonnes of cargo annually. Globally, dnata provides ground handling and cargo services at more than 90 airports across 16 countries, having handled over 888,000 aircraft turns and moved 3.2 million tonnes of cargo in the 2025-2026 financial year.
The new agreement underscores Silk Way West Airlines' ongoing focus on building resilient global cargo operations through strategic partnerships with trusted international service providers, ensuring consistent service quality and reliable cargo solutions for customers worldwide.
