Since 2017, for the first time in Azerbaijan, a decline in commercial gas volumes has been recorded

In January 2023, gas production in Azerbaijan amounted to 4 billion 225.7 mcm, by 4% higher than in the first month of last year. During the reporting period, commercial gas production amounted to 3 billion 137.1 mcm, the monthly report of the State Committee on Statistics of the Republic of Azerbaijan. Compared to January last year, commercial gas production decreased by 42.9 million cubic meters, or 1.3%.

Why did the commercial volumes of gas in the country have decreased, since they have been constantly growing since 2017?

If you study the gas statistics of the Ministry of Energy of Azerbaijan, you can see that in January the volume of gas production, both in the Azeri-Chirag-Guneshli block and in the “Shah Deniz” field, decreased by 100 mcm compared to January last year. Growth in gas production was recorded only at the fields of SOCAR. At the end of 2022, commercial gas production in Azerbaijan amounted to 34 billion 958.3 mcm (an increase of 7.3%). The Azerbaijani government predicts 46 billion 761.6 mcm gas production in the country in 2023. At the same time, commercial gas production is projected at the level of 35 billion 900.3 mcm
