SOCAR hopes to open company office in Turkmenistan

The State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) hopes to soon open a branch and an office within the framework of the “Dostlug” project, which will further deepen Azerbaijani-Turkmen cooperation. SOCAR Vice President Elshad Nasirov stated this yesterday during a speech at an event dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan.

“The “Dostlug” project is intended to become a platform for the multifaceted expansion of the Azerbaijani-Turkmen cooperation, in which SOCAR plays a special role. I really hope that soon we will be able to open a branch and office of the company to deepen and expand cooperation with fraternal Turkmenistan,” Nasirov said.

According to him, the signing on January 21, 2021 of the Memorandum of Understanding on the joint exploration, development and development of hydrocarbon resources of the “Dostlug” field in the Caspian Sea has become a new milestone in the development of bilateral relations in the oil and gas sector.

The Vice President noted that among the signed documents, an important place is also occupied by a trilateral agreement on swap gas supplies signed on November 28, 2021 between Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan and Iran, which promises the region even greater development in the future.

In turn, the Ambassador of Turkmenistan to Azerbaijan Mekan Ishankuliev said that the agreements on the “Dostlug” field will serve to strengthen cooperation.

“We hope that this project will give a great impetus to the implementation of the Trans-Caspian gas pipeline project,” the ambassador said.

He noted that in this way, Turkmen gas can enter the European market, which will be of great importance for the development of the country’s energy sector.
