SOCAR interested in pilot project of floating wind farm

On July 15, SOCAR and the French Technip Energies signed an Agreement on Cooperation in the Development of Sustainable Energy in Offshore Fields. The document was signed by SOCAR President Rovnag Abdullayev and Chairman of the Board of Technip Italy S.p.A. Marco Villa.

Within the framework of the agreement, opportunities for sustainable development will be explored to improve energy efficiency in offshore oil and gas operations, save overall business costs, and reduce carbon emissions, SOCAR’s press service said.

According to the information, the possibility of joint implementation, without additional obligations, of a pilot project for the construction of a floating wind farm in the sea and the supply of energy to oil and gas operations with its help will be assessed.

“Currently, oil and gas production in the Caspian Sea mainly uses electricity generated from natural gas. One of the main goals of the feasibility study and pilot project is to determine the prospects for the supply of alternative energy for the oil and gas industry of Azerbaijan, to reduce the consumption of natural gas and an increase in its exports,” the company notes.
