Baku:Azerbaijani MP Soltan Mammadov has expressed concerns over double standards in conflict resolution, highlighting how these hinder the restoration of justice and peace. Mammadov emphasized that the Armenian aggression and prolonged occupation faced by Azerbaijan have exposed significant issues within the international relations system.
According to Azeri-Press news agency, Mammadov criticized the selective application of international law norms and principles, stating that such practices undermine justice. He referred to President Ilham Aliyev's remarks at the 7th World Forum on Intercultural Dialogue, where Aliyev identified the causes of modern wars and suggested preventive measures. Mammadov warned that considering oneself above international law and fostering impunity creates conditions for conflicts to intensify and prolong.
Mammadov further highlighted the importance of implementing UN resolutions to maintain the credibility of the international system. He pointed out the failure to enforce the four UN Security Council resolutions from 1993 concerning Armenia's occupation, questioning the effectiveness of international organizations in conflict resolution. He reiterated President Aliyev's stance that effective mechanisms are needed to ensure the implementation of international decisions, stressing the necessity of applying international law consistently to all states to prevent double standards.
