Baku: President Ilham Aliyev's visit to Washington is of historical significance, Speaker of the Milli Majlis (Parliament) of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Sahiba Gafarova, said at the special session themed 'The Washington Agreements: A Triumph of Peace Diplomacy and Wise Leadership,' held within the framework of the extraordinary session of the Milli Majlis (Azerbaijani Parliament).

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, President Ilham Aliyev visited the United States at the invitation of President Donald Trump. The agreements reached and the meetings held during this visit underscore its historical significance. The speaker emphasized that the key attributes of great leaders are their principled stance, diplomatic skill, and courage, all of which are evident in the context of the Washington Agreements.

Sahiba Gafarova further noted that the visit marks a qualitative advancement in relations between Azerbaijan and the United States. She highlighted that President Trump's position, which is based on peace and cooperation, played a significant role in this development. The Washington Agreements signify the logical conclusion of peace diplomacy by President Ilham Aliyev following the Patriotic War. The initialing of a peace agreement between Azerbaijan and Armenia is seen as embodying justice and fairness, opening new horizons for the region.

As a continuation of the Washington Agreements, the implementation of the Zangezur corridor is also deemed significant. This corridor is anticipated to reshape the transportation map of Eurasia, introducing substantial innovations to the region's transport routes. Its designation as the 'Trump Route' is considered intentional, marking a decisive milestone in establishing lasting peace in the South Caucasus.
