Speaker of Milli Majlis Highlights Azerbaijan’s Role in Hosting WUF13 at CIS Parliamentary Assembly

Saint petersburg: Speaker of Azerbaijan's Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova participated in the 60th plenary session of the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly (CIS IPA) during her working visit to Russia. Addressing the session, she emphasized the Assembly's vital role in fostering dialogue and cooperation among the legislative bodies of member states, providing a platform for discussing a wide range of mutual interests. She also underscored the significance of the Assembly's regular events and the successful implementation of its initiatives.

According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, Sahiba Gafarova briefed participants on the 13th Session of the UN World Urban Forum (WUF13) held in Baku from May 17 to 22. She highlighted WUF13 as a prestigious international platform focused on sustainable urban development and urbanization, noting that hosting the session in Baku demonstrates Azerbaijan's capacity to unite countries and communities around shared objectives.

Gafarova mentioned an Inter-Parliamentary Assembly event on 'Sustainable Development of Mountain Settlements' held within WUF13's framework, emphasizing its importance for many CIS countries. The initiative facilitated a substantive exchange of experiences and drew attention to the development of mountainous regions. She expressed satisfaction with the active participation of parliamentarians from member states in the discussions.

Furthermore, Sahiba Gafarova stated that the Inter-Parliamentary Assembly not only serves as a multilateral platform but also enhances bilateral parliamentary cooperation among member states. She mentioned her recent participation in the Second Asian Women's Forum in Bukhara, Uzbekistan, alongside CIS IPA colleagues.

The Speaker informed participants about the upcoming 24th meeting of the Inter-Parliamentary Commission on Cooperation between the Milli Majlis of Azerbaijan and the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation in June. She highlighted the importance of CIS IPA initiatives focused on strengthening humanitarian cooperation.
