Baku: The court proceedings in the criminal case against Armenian citizen Ruben Vardanyan, accused of multiple serious crimes under the Criminal Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan, continued recently. The charges include crimes against peace and humanity, war crimes, terrorism, and financing of terrorism.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the open court session was held at the Baku Military Court, presided over by Judge Zeynal Aghayev, with Anar Rzayev and Jamal Ramazanov as part of the panel, and reserve judge Gunel Samadova. The accused, Ruben Vardanyan, was provided with a Russian translator and a representative for his defense. Judge Aghayev introduced the court panel, prosecutors, and translators to the victims and their legal heirs, explaining their rights and obligations as per the legislation.

During the session, testimonies were heard from several victims and legal heirs of those affected by the alleged crimes. Rayil Ganbarov, the father of victim Elmir Ganbarov, testified that his son was killed in Khojavend due to fire from Armenian forces. Shahriyar Mammadov, brother of victim Safiyar Mammadov, stated that his brother was killed in Kalbajar. Several victims recounted being wounded due to enemy fire in various regions, including Lachin, Khojaly, Aghdara, and Shusha districts.

Victim Muzaffar Jafarov reported being wounded while evacuating the injured in an ambulance marked with medical signs, which came under fire. Other victims, such as Nijat Alizade, Fuad Karimov, and Ruslan Mammadli, shared similar experiences of injuries caused by enemy fire, leading to ongoing health issues for some.

The accused, Ruben Vardanyan, faced questions from several victims, who stated they were aware of him through social networks and the press. The session also included the announcement of forensic medical examination reports regarding the injuries sustained by the victims.

The next court session is scheduled for October 14. Ruben Vardanyan is facing numerous charges under various articles of the Azerbaijani Criminal Code, including those related to war crimes, terrorism, murder, and illegal activities, reflecting the gravity of the accusations against him.
