Baku: A special Working Group on Automobile Transportation, consisting of representatives from the customs, border, and transport agencies of Azerbaijan, Iran, and Russia, was established at a meeting in Baku to resolve issues faced by carriers, stated Deputy Prime Minister Shahin Mustafayev, APA’s correspondent dispatched to Iran reports.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Shahin Mustafayev announced that Azerbaijan has completed the construction of a new automobile bridge on Astarachay, and a temporary border crossing point is now operational. However, Mustafayev noted that Iran has caused some delays in these developments. The Iranian side has assured that these works will be completed by the Nowruz holiday next year. The current border crossing point and automobile bridge, which currently allow 100-150 trucks to pass through daily, are expected to accommodate up to 1,000 vehicles once the bridge construction is completed, alleviating the current traffic congestion.

The Deputy Prime Minister emphasized that an agreement was reached to establish a trilateral Working Group dedicated to resolving some of the difficulties faced by highways and transporters. This Working Group is tasked with addressing traffic jams, identifying their causes, and removing any artificial obstacles that may exist.
