Storm Adam Threatens Southern Valencia with Torrential Rains

Valencia:Spain's State Meteorological Agency has issued a special warning for severe weather as storm Adam approaches. The Levante region and parts of the Balearic Islands are expected to experience "very heavy and persistent" showers and thunderstorms beginning Sunday and continuing over the next 48 hours.

According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, the DANA Adam, isolated from the general atmospheric circulation, combined with a humid easterly flow, is predicted to bring widespread rainfall to southern Valencia, Alicante, the Region of Murcia, the Almería coastline, and up to three of the Balearic Islands. Particularly heavy rains are anticipated on the Pityusic Islands, including Ibiza and Formentera, and significant totals are expected in Mallorca.

The State Meteorological Agency's note suggests that these showers could become "torrential." However, it remains uncertain which specific areas will receive the highest rainfall. Currently, red alerts are in effect along the southern Valencian coast and in northern Alicante, while orange alerts cover the Seville lowlands, Ronda, and the Sierra de Grazalema in Cádiz.

The forecast indicates that the southern coast of Valencia and areas around Cape La Nao could see rainfall exceeding 60-90 millimeters in an hour and up to 200-300 mm within 12 hours. The Pityusic Islands could receive more than 160 mm in the same period. Later, coastal and pre-coastal areas of Alicante, Murcia, Almería, and the Balearics, including Mallorca, could experience totals above 50 mm in an hour and 100-140 mm in 12 hours.

Rainfall is expected to intensify in Palma, the Balearic capital, located on the southern coast of Mallorca. The agency warns that by late Monday, the storm might shift northward towards the Valencia region and potentially reach Tarragona, before weakening as Tuesday approaches.
