Syria and Azerbaijan Explore Cooperation in Science and Education

Damascus: Syria discussed cooperation with Azerbaijan in the fields of science and education. On August 21, the first meeting of the Syria-Azerbaijan Working Group covering humanitarian fields was held online, the Ministry of Science and Education told APA.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the meeting was attended by Deputy Minister of Science and Education and Head of the Syria-Azerbaijan Working Group on humanitarian fields Kenan Karimzade, members of the Working Group from the Azerbaijani side, Charg© d’Affaires of the Republic of Azerbaijan to the Syrian Arab Republic Elnur Shahhuseynov, as well as Deputy Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research of the Syrian Arab Republic and Head of the Syria-Azerbaijan Working Group on humanitarian fields Ghaith Wargouzeq, and members of the Working Group from the Syrian side.

Within the framework of the meeting, issues of cooperation between the two countries in the fields of science, education, and culture were discussed. Additionally, an exchange of views was held on exploring opportunities for Syrian students to study at higher education institutions of the Republic of Azerbaijan within the framework of the “Heydar Aliyev International Education Grant” program.

A decision to establish the Syria-Azerbaijan Working Group was made as a result of an official visit to the Syrian Arab Republic on May 4, 2025, led by Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Azerbaijan Samir Sharifov. This initiative aims to develop cooperation between the two countries in the fields of science, education, and culture.
