Bishkek: Tajik President Emomali Rahmon has proposed the construction of a large oil refinery in Central Asia during the Informal Consultative Meeting of the Presidents of Azerbaijan and the Central Asian countries. This initiative aims to utilize modern technologies to enhance the region's energy security and meet the domestic demand for petroleum products.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, President Rahmon emphasized the importance of advancing regional development through key areas such as transport corridors, logistics infrastructure, energy, industry, digitalization, and food security. He highlighted the significance of strengthening cultural and humanitarian ties to foster friendship and trust among the countries involved. Security cooperation, particularly in combating threats, was also a focal point of the discussions.

President Rahmon pointed out the impact of the tense situation in regional and global energy markets on Central Asian countries. He reiterated the need to ensure energy security as a critical factor for sustainable development. He urged the relevant institutions to explore the feasibility of the proposed oil refinery project, which could serve the domestic needs of the region. The Tajik leader expressed optimism that the outcomes of the meeting would enhance joint efforts towards the prosperity of the region and its people.
