Tajikistan and Russia Discuss Operations at Sangtuda Hydroelectric Power Plant

DUSHANBE — In a recent bilateral meeting, Tajikistan and Russia reviewed the operational aspects of the Sangtuda hydroelectric power plant, focusing on enhancing energy cooperation and industrial standards.

According to Trend News Agency, the discussions were part of a broader meeting between Tajik Energy and Water Resources Minister Daler Juma and his Russian counterpart, Sergei Tsivilev. The meeting also covered the activities of the intergovernmental commission on economic cooperation and preparations for their next assembly scheduled for October 4 in Dushanbe.

Sangtuda HPP-1, a major component of the Vakhsh cascade of hydropower plants, was built largely with Russian funding and is integral to strategic cooperation between Tajikistan and Russia in the energy sector. Located in the Danghara district of Khatlon province, the plant is an essential part of the South Tajikistan Territorial Production Complex and stands as one of the three largest HPPs in the country.
