Tajikistan Sees Increase in Passenger Transportation in 2024


DUSHANBE: Tajikistan’s transportation sector has experienced notable growth in the first nine months of 2024, with a marked increase in passenger numbers and passenger turnover. The country transported 759.4 million passengers from January through September, reflecting a 12 percent increase compared to the same period last year.

According to Trend News Agency, data from Tajikistan’s Ministry of Transport indicates that passenger turnover reached 10.1 billion passenger kilometers, a 19 percent rise from the previous year. Road transport was the predominant mode, carrying 99.8 percent of passengers. Within this period, 758.3 million passengers utilized road transport, marking an 11.9 percent increase year-on-year.

The report highlights that 90.2 percent of all passenger transportation, equivalent to 684.9 million passengers, was facilitated by enterprises under the Ministry of Transport of Tajikistan. The ministry’s statistics also reveal that as of January 1, 2024, there were 666,074 registered vehicles in T
ajikistan, encompassing various categories such as cargo vehicles, passenger vehicles, cars, special vehicles, and motorcycles. This total represents a 10.8 percent increase over the previous year, with 64,938 additional units. Of these vehicles, 48,989, or 7.5 percent, are active within the country’s economic sectors.
