The court again did not release Bakhtiyar Hajiyev

The Baku Court of Appeal rejected the complaint of public activist Bakhtiyar Hajiyev about the refusal to transfer him to house arrest. Hajiyev, who has been on a hunger strike for 31 days, also participated in the trial, lawyer Zibeyda Sadigova told Turan.

“The health of the activist continues to deteriorate. He said that the day before he felt bad, but the doctor did not give him medicine so that he would not have problems with his stomach. He said that he was able to fall asleep only in the morning,” the lawyer said. According to her, Hajiyev was not allowed to call either a lawyer or the Ombudswoman.

She also said that Hajiyev prepared a petition to the court and an appeal to the Ombudswoman, but these notes were taken from him in the pre-trial detention center.

* Bakhtiyar Hajiyev was detained on December 9 on charges of hooliganism and contempt of court. On the same day, the Khatai District Court arrested him for 1 month and 20 days. On December 15, Hajiyev went on a hunger strike demanding his release. On December 28, he ended his hunger strike after persistent calls from the public and family members. However, on January 9, he resumed his hunger strike after the appeal court refused to release him and continues to this day.

On January 21, the court extended Hajiyev’s arrest for another 1 month.
