The court refused to transfer Rovshan Akperov under house arrest

Today, a preparatory meeting in the case of the former corps commander, Lieutenant General Rovshan Akperov was held at the Baku military court, chaired by Judge Habib Hasanov. He is accused of premeditated murder of businessperson Elchin Aliyev in 2001 in Kiev.

At the preparatory meeting, the lawyers petitioned to exclude the testimony of a number of witnesses from the case materials, including the testimony of Nazim Ibrahimov, former head of the State Committee for Work with the Diaspora.

According to Akperov’s defense, at the beginning of the investigation they stated that they had not seen who had committed the murder, and last year they pointed to Akperov.

The defense petitioned to change the measure of restraint to house arrest. In turn, the representative of the victim’s legal successor, Elchin Sadigov, filed a civil suit against Akperov for 1 million 220 thousand manats. The court did not satisfy the petition of the defense, and the claim of the representative of the victim was accepted into the proceedings.

The court hearings are scheduled for July 30.

* On the night of May 31 to June 1, 2001, businessman Elchin Aliyev was killed with a knife in Kiev. One of the witnesses and the mother of the deceased directly indicated that the killer was Rovshan Akperov.

Then this story was hushed up. Perhaps they took into account Akperov’s merits in suppressing anti-government protests in 1994 and 1995 in Baku and Ganja, for which he was awarded the title of National Hero.

* 55-year-old Rovshan Akperov was the commander of the army corps, participated in the first Karabakh war. He was barred from participating in last year’s 44-day war. According to rumors, the general was extremely unhappy with this and demanded an explanation from the authorities.
