On July 3, Ahmed Ismayilov, the executive director of the Media Development Agency and Mehman Aliyev, the director of the Turan News Agency had a conversation on the draft law on media.

Yesterday Aliyev sent a letter to Ismayilov urging to publish the draft law on media with the aim to start its broad public discussions, which has been under consideration for several months in a narrow circle.

Aliyev believes that information activity has already gone beyond the narrow professional sphere of journalism and has become a part of public life, and therefore public interests and requests should be taken into account when preparing a law that regulates information relations between the state, society and the media.

Ismayilov and Aliyev agreed to hold a meeting next week to discuss issues related to the draft law on media.

Ismayilov noted that the draft law, as planned, would certainly be submitted to the public after an expert assessment and revision.
